Photographs for a gravestone – what to look out for when choosing?
The best option would be a photograph taken by a professional in a specialist studio. However, we do not always have access to such mementos – in such cases, you will need to choose the image for the gravestone yourself. Here are a few elements that the perfect photograph for such a project should have!
1. A clear image – a clearly visible face with open eyes, free from light discolouration or falling shadows. 2. High resolution – at least 300 DPI. For scanned photographs – a minimum of 600 DPI. 3. An original digital file – an image that has been processed as little as possible.

What about a scanned photograph for a gravestone?
If you decide to scan an image for a gravestone design, it’s also worth preparing it properly. The best results come from flatbed scanners, not office scanners – to produce such a copy, you can visit a professional print shop. If you’re doing this yourself, remember to set the correct resolution and to scan just the surface of the photograph.

High-resolution images guarantee the best possible 2D or 3D design for a memorial. When immortalising the likenesses of the deceased on gravestone features, the quality of the finished product depends largely on the material provided. Therefore, whenever possible, always opt for the original image! If, on the other hand, you’re cutting out the image of a loved one from a group photo, choose one where their face is most clearly visible and largest.
